The picturesque Andalucian
village of Mijas is a pretty, typically Spanish, whitewashed village
situated right at the centre of the Costa del Sol. It sits in the
lowlands of the Sierra de Mijas mountain range, surrounded by pine
forest, 428 metres above sea level and just 25 mins from Malaga's
airport. The bustling coastal resort of Fuengirola is only 8 Km
away and boasts one of the largest beaches on the coast. Andalucia
is reputed to have the best climate in Spain with 325 annual days
of sunshine and an average temperature in excess of 20C.
Wander through the narrow cobbled streets of the
village, which has managed to retain much of its traditional Andalusian
way of life, and visit local attractions including the bullring
and many good quality little shops selling pottery, including Lladro,
leather goods, local crafts and Mijas crafted jewellery. There are
numerous street cafes, restaurants and bars - most run by local
Spanish families and exhibitions, concerts and theatre shows are
on most weeks in the surrounding area.
